July 7 - 21
This summer, Emmanuel will send its fifth group of J2A pilgrims on a spiritual journey. Pilgrimage is a time for our young people to encounter God in new ways and to develop a strong community with one another. The focus of this pilgrimage is “All of you - live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.” (1 Peter 3:8) They will live this out in a variety of ways. This pilgrimage will be the first for our rector who will accompany the teens and 3 other adults on this journey.
Their destination is Arkansas. They will fly to Little Rock and drive to Perryville where they will stay at the Heifer Ranch. This ranch is an educational component of the Heifer Project. During their stay, the group will stay in the Global Village where they will briefly experience the lifestyle of the Third World. They will stay in homes similar to those of Africa or Asia. They will barter with neighboring villages for food, water and firewood. They will gain an understanding of and compassion for people around the world and hopefully learn to appreciate what they have.
After the Global Village, the group will move on to Camp Mitchell – the camp and conference center for the Diocese of Arkansas. It is located in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. They will enjoy nature and journey along the Trail of Tears learning about the Cherokee Indians. They will live in community preparing their meals and sharing the chores.
The pilgrimage will conclude in Little Rock. They will visit the Civil Rights Museum at Central High School, do some community outreach and worship at the Cathedral. We hope our teenagers will find their pilgrimage a memorable and meaningful experience.
Please keep them in your prayers.
