Adult Education 2007 - 08
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God… Romans 12:2
Christian Formation is a life-long learning process in which we are gradually transformed into the people God wants us to be. By engaging our minds in learning and thinking we begin to discern God’s desires for our lives. We delight God when we draw closer and when we reach out to our companions along the way – sharing the gifts which God has given us and making a difference in our community and the world.
The programs that follow are some of the ways that we can share our journeys, enriching our lives together in Christ.
Sunday Morning
Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m. and ends at 10:45 a.m. each Sunday from September to May. Adults have a choice of two programs on Sunday morning:
- Adult Forum offers presentations on a variety of areas of interest for our faith community. In the fall of 2007, we will explore the theme of Simpler Living, Compassionate Life —exploring voluntary simplicity as a pathway to an abundant life. Meets in the Church.
- Bible Synthesis takes a look at each week’s Gospel reading using a Question and Discussion format. Emphasis is placed on how the Gospel effects our lives today. Meets in the Library.
Bible Study
- Women's Bible Study —Betty Schindler leads a study on Mondays at 6:30.
- Sunday Evening Bible Study - Will resume in Fall 2008
- Daytime Bible Study - Will resume in Fall 2008 - Tuesday at 10:00.
Faith Formation Programs
There are many additional opportunities for spiritual growth. Most of these programs involve small communities. All will help you along your spiritual path.
- Men's Spirituality - Saturday morning breakfast for men of all ages. The group usually meets on the first and third Saturdays in the Parish Hall at 7:30 AM.
- Faith in Fiction Book Group is a monthly reading group that is open to everyone. It is an informal group that is more of a conversation among friends than a college English class. We discuss the spiritual or ethical thread which runs through the “novel of the month.” We meet on the fourth Tuesday at 7:00 in the library.
- Inquirers’ Class - It is customary for members of the Church who wish to identify themselves with the Episcopal tradition to be confirmed by a Bishop of this Church. To help people with that decision, we offer an Inquirers’ Class each year in anticipation of the Bishop's Visitation. This class lasts 6 weeks and is taught by the Rector. It is also used by many people as a re-entry into the life of the Church after a period of absence. Some use the Inquirers' Class as an opportunity for further nurture in the love of the Lord Jesus.
- Via Media is a Christian Formation program that celebrates who we are as American Anglicans and offering both the content and the context for conversations about Christian faith from an unabashedly Anglican perspective. It is video-enhanced curricula designed to proclaim the Good News of God in Christ Jesus and to present the Episcopal Church in a contemporary context. What via media celebrates is a church that tells the truth about both its strengths and its challenges, inviting those seeking spiritual community to come and do the same. Via Media is now over for Spring 2008 but we anticipate another program in the fall.
- Journey Group —meets Sunday evenings, 6:30—8:30 in the library. Participants share their dreams and explore the meaning they may have for their lives. For more information contact the Rector.
