Father Mario Melendez was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He attended seminary at Boston University School of Theology. After graduation, he was ordained as a priest in the Anglican Church of Canada.
Padre Mario served as visiting priest at Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis, IN, after serving as associate rector for Latino ministries at Saint Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Herndon, Virginia. Before that, he served as priest-in-charge and Episcopal co-pastor at the Church of the Holy Apostles in Virginia Beach. Holy Apostles is the only Episcopal and Roman Catholic parish fully recognized by the Episcopal Church and the Roman Catholic Church. He also served as a diocesan missioner and chaplain for the Latino/x community in the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia and, before that, served as priest-in-charge at the Parish of Cox's Cove/McIvers, in the Diocese of Western Newfoundland, Canada
He is married to Catherine Wallace de Melendez, a pediatric nurse serving as the Bleeding Disorders Nurse Coordinator at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk. They have a 4-year-old son, Thomas, and a 7-year-old Cardigan Welsh Corgi, Ripley.
